The 2010 winter Olympics concluded yesterday. The gold and silver medals were yet to be handed out for men’s ice hockey going in to the final day of competition. The much anticipated rematch between USA and Canada included LA Kings teammates facing off against each other.
LA Kings’ defenseman Drew Doughty laced up for his native Canada, while captain/forward Dustin Brown, defenseman Jack Johnson, and goaltender Jonathan Quick suited up for USA. Doughty and his Canadian countrymen earned gold medals, while USA settled for silver.
Doughty, at 20 years old, was the youngest member of the Canadian team. It was his first Olympic medal. He played in all seven games for Canada and recorded two assists.
Brown and Johnson both played in all six games for USA, while Quick did not appear in a game. The silver medals are the first earned by each player. USA finished with a record of 5-1 in the Olympic tournament.
The Olympians will return to NHL action with the Kings Tuesday night against the Dallas Stars at 5:30 p.m. You can hear the game live on AM 1220 KHTS.
