Mike Gillespie, Former COC Baseball Coach, Earns Hall Of Fame Honor

sportslocalMike Gillespie, the one-time coach of the College of the Canyons baseball team, will be inducted to the American Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in Dallas, Texas, on Friday.

Gillespie is the coach of the UC Irvine baseball team and was awarded the Big West Coach of the Year in 2009 for leading his team to an undefeated 12-0 conference record and the NCAA College World Series.

 

Gillespie coached at the University of Southern California before making the move to UC Irvine. He was the national coach of the year by the American Baseball Coaches Association in 1998.

He was the first baseball coach at COC and stayed at the community level for 16 seasons. Gillespie won three state championships and 11 Mountain Valley Conference championships while coaching at COC.
