No. 9 The Master’s College Women’s Soccer Team Opens With Win

khts_sportsThe Master’s College women’s soccer team, ranked ninth in the NAIA, beat Oregon Tech, 2-1, and won its season opener.

Natasha Coyle scored both goals for The Master’s College. She scored her first goal in the 31st minute and scored again seven minutes later to give the Mustangs a 2-0 lead at halftime.

The Master’s College outshot Oregon Tech, 20-5. Next up for The Master’s College is William Jessup University on Wednesday.

In high school baseball, West Ranch’s JC Cloney is headed to the Long Beach State baseball team.

Cloney committed to Cal State Fullerton over the summer. But the head coach at Fullerton left to coach the University of Tennessee baseball team and Cloney reconsidered his choice.

He is expected to play first base and pitch for Long Beach State.

In high school volleyball, the Valencia girls are ranked fifth in Division I-A in the CIF Southern Section preseason coaches poll.

Marymount is ranked No. 1 in Division I-A.

In baseball, the Rockies beat the Astros, 9-5, and the Nationals beat the Diamondbacks, 4-1.

In other games, the Brewers beat the Pirates, 8-1, the Phillies shut out the Mets, 10-0, and the Braves blanked the Cubs, 3-0.

In the American League, the Mariners slipped past the Indians, 3-2, the Rangers shut out the Red Sox, 4-0, the Tigers beat the Rays, 5-2, and the Orioles beat the Twins, 4-1.
