CIF Regionals begin today with both teams on the road.

The Saugus girls soccer team won its first CIF Southern Section championship in school history. Their reward: a 200-mile bus ride to Clovis to face Buchanan High, five-time Central Section champions. The CIF Regional tournaments begin today. Saugus is in the eight-team Division I tournament.

Vasquez High in Acton is in the Division III bracket. But it’s not any easier for Vasquez. They face top-seeded The Bishop’s School. The Vasquez girls will have to travel to San Diego for their first-round game against the team that won the Division III Regional championship last year.

It was a light day around the valley in high school sports.

The West Ranch boys golf team won the Oak Park Invitational on Monday. J.J. Holen had four birdies and shot a 72, tied for the low round of the day. The Valencia boys golf team finished second.

The Saugus boys volleyball team notched its second win of the young season, 3-1 over Bellarmine-Jefferson High. Kyle Eaton had nine kills for West Ranch.

In pro golf, the AT&T Champions Classic at Valencia Country Club begins on Friday, but some will be on the course today. The open qualifier for non-exempt professionals starts this morning.
