Pair Of College Of The Canyons Athletes Set For U.S. Junior Track And Field Championships

Tim White and Anthony Fowler from College of the Canyons will compete in the U.S. Junior Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Drake University in Iowa.

White will compete in the triple jump. He won the community college state championship in the triple jump. He is one of 16 athletes, which include top competitors from NCAA Division 1 schools and club track teams, entered in the triple jump.

Fowler will race in the 800 meters. He advanced to the California community college finals in the 800 and is ranked ninth among the runners entered in the race.

White will compete in the triple jump on Thursday. Fowler’s first race is on Friday. They are both competing for spots on the United States team that will participate in the Pan Am Junior Championships in Columbia in August.

In auto racing, Alex Tagliani, driving for the Barracuda Racing team owned by Valencia’s Bryan Herta, finished 23rd in the Milwaukee Indy Fest over the weekend. It was his fourth race in a row finishing outside the top 20.

Ryan Hunter-Reay won the race in Milwaukee. The next race is the Iowa Corn Indy 250 at Iowa Speedway on Sunday.

In the NHL playoffs, the Boston Bruins shut out the Chicago Blackhawks, 2-0, in Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Finals.

The Bruins have a 2-1 lead in the series. Game 4 is in Boston on Wednesday.

In baseball, the Dodgers are in New York to start a two-game series against the Yankees. Hyun Jin-Ryu starts for the Dodgers. Phil Hughes takes the mound for the Yankees.
