Pair Of High School Girls Golfers Share Newhall Land Cup Title

sportslocalIt looks like there’s some competition in high school golf for the Newhall Land Cup individual championship.

Hart’s Brenna Carlson and Valencia’s Alison Lee each shot 2-under par, 34s, at TPC at Valencia on Tuesday for a share of the lead of the first day of the Newhall Land Cup tournament.

Hart won its fifth straight Foothill League match with a team score of 185, a league record at TPC at Valencia.
Play continues today.

In high school volleyball, the Hart High girls handed West Ranch its first Foothill League loss and moved into a tie for first place in league.

Hart won in five games led by Breena Beckett’s 10 kills and 10 blocks. Jennie Long added a team-high 11 kills for Hart. Both teams have 4-1 league records.

Allison Summers did all she could to rally her West Ranch team with 28 kills and 25 digs. Setter Tani Slauson had 52 assists for West Ranch.

Valencia won its fourth league match of the season and is also tied for first with a 4-1 record. Sidney Striff led Valencia with nine kills in her team’s sweep over Golden Valley. Golden Valley’s Sam Holcombe had a team-high eight kills.

Saugus swept Canyon in three games. Taylor Schubert had 11 kills and 13 digs for Saugus.

About Connie Jones

Connie and her husband, John, moved to the Santa Clarita Valley almost 30 years ago. Living in Santa Clarita for that long is the direct opposite of Connie’s childhood. She was an Army ‘brat’ who moved every two to three years. Consequently, she has lived in many states and even spent three years in Europe. All three of her kids went to Santa Clarita schools. Connie says the best thing about her job at KHTS is that she is never bored. “If I’m not smiling, Carl is sure to ask why, just before giving me a mind-boggling project.” “KHTS AM-1220 is an integral part of our community and I’m glad to be a part of it. Besides, the DJs will take my request to play Shania Twain’s ‘Still the One’ for my wedding anniversary – gotta love that!”
