Pair Of High School Girls Golfers Share Newhall Land Cup Title

sportslocalIt looks like there’s some competition in high school golf for the Newhall Land Cup individual championship.

Hart’s Brenna Carlson and Valencia’s Alison Lee each shot 2-under par, 34s, at TPC at Valencia on Tuesday for a share of the lead of the first day of the Newhall Land Cup tournament.

 

Hart won its fifth straight Foothill League match with a team score of 185, a league record at TPC at Valencia.

In high school volleyball, the Hart High girls handed West Ranch its first Foothill League loss and moved into a tie for first place in league.

Hart won in five games led by Breena Beckett’s 10 kills and 10 blocks. Jennie Long added a team-high 11 kills for Hart. Both teams have 4-1 league records.

Allison Summers did all she could to rally her West Ranch team with 28 kills and 25 digs. Setter Tani Slauson had 52 assists for West Ranch.

Valencia won its fourth league match of the season and is also tied for first with a 4-1 record. Sidney Striff led Valencia with nine kills in her team’s sweep over Golden Valley. Golden Valley’s Sam Holcombe had a team-high eight kills.

Saugus swept Canyon in three games. Taylor Schubert had 11 kills and 13 digs for Saugus.

In college soccer, the College of the Canyons women’s team played to a 1-1 draw against Bakersfield College. Kylie Trammell scored the only goal for COC, unbeaten in its last six games.
