Pitchers Stand Out In Valley Invitational Baseball League All-Star Games

sportslocalIn the Valley Invitational Baseball League all star games, pitchers stole the limelight in the two games at Birmingham High School over the weekend.

The first game was a scoreless tie until the seventh inning. Harvard-Westlake’s Joe Cadiff hit a run-scoring single in the bottom of the seventh to give his team a 1-0 win in the first game.

In the second game, Crespi’s Kevin Williams hit a two-run home run in the fourth inning, but his team lost, 4-2.

The Santa Clarita Valley players on the teams were not much of a factor in the games.

In the Major League Baseball All-Star game, Orlando Hudson and Chad Billingsley had some mixed results last night in St. Louis. Hudson singled in the eighth inning and stole second. With his National League team down 4-3, Hudson was on second base with Phillies slugger Ryan Howard at the plate. But Howard struck out and the National League failed to score in the inning.

As for Billingsley, he gave up a game-tying two-out double to Joe Mauer that scored Derek Jeter. At least Billingsley didn’t get the loss.

About Connie Jones

Connie and her husband, John, moved to the Santa Clarita Valley almost 30 years ago. Living in Santa Clarita for that long is the direct opposite of Connie’s childhood. She was an Army ‘brat’ who moved every two to three years. Consequently, she has lived in many states and even spent three years in Europe. All three of her kids went to Santa Clarita schools. Connie says the best thing about her job at KHTS is that she is never bored. “If I’m not smiling, Carl is sure to ask why, just before giving me a mind-boggling project.” “KHTS AM-1220 is an integral part of our community and I’m glad to be a part of it. Besides, the DJs will take my request to play Shania Twain’s ‘Still the One’ for my wedding anniversary – gotta love that!”
