Prep Stars Ready For All Star Football Game At COC

khts_sportsThe Daily News all-star football game at College of the Canyons is loaded with local talent on both the East and West teams.

It might be the last time to see many of these players on the football field.

Valencia’s Ryan Gorman will be at linebacker for the East All Stars and could be one of the top defensive players in the game.

Hart has a trio of players on the West team. Running back Dylan Edwards, receiver Tim White and kicker Rhett Arnold are all expected to make contributions.

The game is Sunday at the COC football field.

In golf, Hart High graduate Jason Gore earned an exemption in the Northern Trust Open, one of the oldest tournaments on the PGA tour, using Twitter.

Gore will not have to prequalify for the tournament after sending Tweets seeking a sponsor exemption. He received one and will be making his seventh career appearance in the tournament at Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades.

The Northern Trust Open is from Feb. 14-19.

In high school soccer, the Santa Clarita Christian boys lost to Milken, 2-1, in a Heritage League game.

Daniel Stratton scored the only goal for Santa Clarita Christian late in the second half.

The Santa Clarita Christian girls lost to Milken, 3-2. Lauren Gallagher and Tiffany Shroyer scored for Santa Clarita Christian.

In hockey, the Kings rallied late, but lost to the Dallas Stars, 5-4 in a shootout. Jack Johnson and Anze Kopitar each had a goal and two assists.

But Loui Eriksson scored two goals for the Stars, one in the third period that tied the score 4-4 to send the game into overtime.

He scored the winning goal for the Stars in the shootout.

The Kings did get some good news before the game. Goalie Jonathan Quick was selected to the NHL All Star team for the first time in his career.

The NHL All Star game is Jan. 29 in Ottawa.
