R.J. Johnson of Canyon Country won his first race in the new S2 stock car division at Toyota Speedway at Irwindale on Saturday night.
Johnson has four wins in the NASCAR Super Trucks division at the track. The new S2 stock cars made their debut at Irwindale with an exhibition race on the Fourth of July and have raced three times since then. Johnson has been in three of the first four S2 races in addition to racing in the Super Trucks division.
Randel King of Riverside has won two S2 races. He was third in Saturday night’s race.
Rich DeLong III of Santa Clarita was third in the NASCAR Super Stocks race. He won his first Super Stocks race at the track on July 8 and snapped the seven-race winning streak of Larry Cerquettini, a driver from Redlands.
Ken Brown of Cherry Valley was the winner of the Super Stocks race, his first of the season.
In the NASCAR Camping World Series West, Greg Pursley, a Canyon High graduate, recorded another top-five finish. He was fourth in the West Series race at Colorado National Speedway on Saturday. Paulie Harraka, a rookie driver from New Jersey, won the race, the first of his career.

In baseball, Casey Watkins, a third baseman who graduated from West Ranch High in June, earned a scholarship to play baseball at Fullerton State. Watkins hit .419 with seven home runs and 45 RBIs in his senior season at West Ranch.
