Rooks Lose Women’s Soccer Game In Final Minutes

sportslocalThe Premier Soccer Santa Clarita Valley Rooks were three minutes from recording their first tie in franchise history, but lost to the visiting So Cal Rush team, 2-1, at Canyon High School on Sunday.
Stephanie Lowery scored her second goal of the game in the 87th minute to break a 1-1 tie. She scored in the first half to give her team a 1-0 lead.

Amanda Reyes, a Hart High graduate who played college soccer at Fresno State, tied the game in the second half with her first goal of the season.

Lowery, who plays soccer at Columbus State University in Georgia, scored the eventual game-winner off a pass from Rei Sawai. Shalayne Janis assisted on Lowery’s first goal in the first half.

The Rooks, in their first season in the Women’s Premier Soccer League, are winless. They are 0-8-0. The Rush won their third game of the season and have won two of their past three games.

After the game, Reyes talked about how she scored her goal and how the Rooks have improved over the past few weeks.
