Rooks Lose Women’s Soccer Game In Final Minutes

sportslocalThe Premier Soccer Santa Clarita Valley Rooks were three minutes from recording their first tie in franchise history, but lost to the visiting So Cal Rush team, 2-1, at Canyon High School on Sunday.
Stephanie Lowery scored her second goal of the game in the 87th minute to break a 1-1 tie. She scored in the first half to give her team a 1-0 lead.

Amanda Reyes, a Hart High graduate who played college soccer at Fresno State, tied the game in the second half with her first goal of the season.

Lowery, who plays soccer at Columbus State University in Georgia, scored the eventual game-winner off a pass from Rei Sawai. Shalayne Janis assisted on Lowery’s first goal in the first half.

The Rooks, in their first season in the Women’s Premier Soccer League, are winless. They are 0-8-0. The Rush won their third game of the season and have won two of their past three games.

After the game, Reyes talked about how she scored her goal and how the Rooks have improved over the past few weeks.

About Connie Jones

Connie and her husband, John, moved to the Santa Clarita Valley almost 30 years ago. Living in Santa Clarita for that long is the direct opposite of Connie’s childhood. She was an Army ‘brat’ who moved every two to three years. Consequently, she has lived in many states and even spent three years in Europe. All three of her kids went to Santa Clarita schools. Connie says the best thing about her job at KHTS is that she is never bored. “If I’m not smiling, Carl is sure to ask why, just before giving me a mind-boggling project.” “KHTS AM-1220 is an integral part of our community and I’m glad to be a part of it. Besides, the DJs will take my request to play Shania Twain’s ‘Still the One’ for my wedding anniversary – gotta love that!”
