Rough Night Of Racing For R.J. Johnson

R.J. Johnson of Canyon Country set the fast time in qualifying and drove to the lead in the NASCAR Super Trucks race at Toyota Speedway at Irwindale on Saturday night. But a mechanical failure knocked him to the back of the field after a restart on lap 26.

Johnson ended up in 13th place in the 14-truck field.
Johnson won his first Super Trucks race of the year two weeks ago at the track.

Rich DeLong III, driving a new truck, the No. 71 Super Trucks Inc. entry, was sixth.

Jeff Peterson, a driver from Riverside, won the Super Trucks race. It was his first win of the year and he was the fourth different winner in the Super Trucks division.

Pat Mintey Jr., a driver from Quartz Hill and the leader in the Super Trucks standings at the track, was fifth.

Travis Thirkettle of Newhall was involved in a scary crash in the NASCAR Super Late Models race at Irwindale. He hit head-on with Bear Rzesnowiecky of Las Vegas on lap 36. Neither driver was injured in the collision. But both cars were not able to return to the race. Thirkettle ended up in 17th place in the 19-car field.
Scott Dodd won the Super Late Models race, his second of the season. Nick Joanides of Woodland Hills, the leader in the Super Late Models standings at the track, was second. Dennis Furden, a driver from Santa Clarita, was 12th.
Mark Borchetta of Valencia was 12th and Kenny Maler Jr. of Acton was 13th in the Legends Car race. Darren Amidon of Santee won the Legends Car race, his second in a row.
