The Santa Clarita Blue Heat can end their inaugural season in the United Soccer League W-League on a winning note tonight against the Colorado Force.
The Blue Heat won their first game in franchise history, 2-1, against the Force on July 3 at Valencia High School. They meet again tonight at Valencia High School in the regular season finale for the Blue Heat.
The Force is tied for second place in the W-League Western Conference standings with a 2-3-5 record. The Blue Heat is in last place with a 2-6-1 record.
Tonight’s game is set to kick off at 7.
In the Valley Invitational Baseball League, the Hart baseball team beat Saugus, 11-7, and has won two games in a row. Baggio Saldivar was 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and scored three runs. Steven Rosso, Josh Brown and Connor O’Brien each had two hits for Hart.
Chris Devery was 2-for-3 and drove in three runs for Saugus. Justin Sheehan was 1-for-4 and drove in two runs.
The rest of the teams in Santa Clarita all lost their Valley Invitational Baseball League games. Canyon lost to Crespi, 4-1. It was Canyon’s third loss in a row.
Valencia lost to Alemany, 5-4. Alemany scored four runs in the top of the seventh inning to win the game. Nick Rivas and Nick Talmo each went 2-for-3 with a double and scored a run.
West Ranch lost to Simi Valley, 2-1, in extra innings. Simi Valley scored a run in the bottom of the ninth to win the game. Aaron Watkins was 1-for-3 and scored West Ranch’s only run.

The Dodgers head into the second half of the baseball season in second place in the National League West standings. They have a 49-39 record and are two games behind the first-place San Diego Padres.
The Dodgers have put reliever George Sherrill on waivers, according to various reports. Sherill came over in a trade with the Baltimore Orioles last year and was a key player on the National League West champion Dodgers.
But he has struggled out of the bullpen in 2010. He has a 7.32 ERA and only 11 strikeouts in 34 appearances.
The Dodgers start a four-game series with the St. Louis Cardinals tonight at Busch Stadium. It will be Clayton Kershaw for the Dodgers against Chris Carpenter for the Cardinals.
