Santa Clarita Blue Heat Prepares For Final Game Of USL W-League Soccer Season

khts_sportsThe Santa Clarita Blue Heat can end their inaugural season in the United Soccer League W-League on a winning note tonight against the Colorado Force.

The Blue Heat won their first game in franchise history, 2-1, against the Force on July 3 at Valencia High School. They meet again tonight at Valencia High School in the regular season finale for the Blue Heat.

The Force is tied for second place in the W-League Western Conference standings with a 2-3-5 record. The Blue Heat is in last place with a 2-6-1 record.

Tonight’s game is set to kick off at 7.

In the Valley Invitational Baseball League, the Hart baseball team beat Saugus, 11-7, and has won two games in a row. Baggio Saldivar was 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and scored three runs. Steven Rosso, Josh Brown and Connor O’Brien each had two hits for Hart.

Chris Devery was 2-for-3 and drove in three runs for Saugus. Justin Sheehan was 1-for-4 and drove in two runs.

The rest of the teams in Santa Clarita all lost their Valley Invitational Baseball League games. Canyon lost to Crespi, 4-1. It was Canyon’s third loss in a row.

The Dodgers head into the second half of the baseball season in second place in the National League West standings. They have a 49-39 record and are two games behind the first-place San Diego Padres.

The Dodgers have put reliever George Sherrill on waivers, according to various reports. Sherill came over in a trade with the Baltimore Orioles last year and was a key player on the National League West champion Dodgers.

But he has struggled out of the bullpen in 2010. He has a 7.32 ERA and only 11 strikeouts in 34 appearances.

The Dodgers start a four-game series with the St. Louis Cardinals tonight at Busch Stadium. It will be Clayton Kershaw for the Dodgers against Chris Carpenter for the Cardinals.

Pregame starts at 4:30 on AM 1220, KHTS.

About Connie Jones

Connie and her husband, John, moved to the Santa Clarita Valley almost 30 years ago. Living in Santa Clarita for that long is the direct opposite of Connie’s childhood. She was an Army ‘brat’ who moved every two to three years. Consequently, she has lived in many states and even spent three years in Europe. All three of her kids went to Santa Clarita schools. Connie says the best thing about her job at KHTS is that she is never bored. “If I’m not smiling, Carl is sure to ask why, just before giving me a mind-boggling project.” “KHTS AM-1220 is an integral part of our community and I’m glad to be a part of it. Besides, the DJs will take my request to play Shania Twain’s ‘Still the One’ for my wedding anniversary – gotta love that!”
