Santa Clarita Blue Heat Women’s Soccer Team Looks To Stay Undefeated

khts_sportsThe Santa Clarita Blue Heat women’s soccer team plays a pair of games over the weekend and will look to stay undefeated in the United Soccer League.

The Blue Heat plays the Seattle Sounders tonight at Valencia High School. Kickoff is set for 7.

On Sunday, the Blue Heat welcomes the Vancouver White Caps at The Master’s College. That game is set to start at 1.

The Blue Heat is 2-0-1 after three games and is coming off a 7-2 blowout against the LA Strikers. Ann Marie Tangorra is the National Player of the Week in the United Soccer League after leading the Blue Heat in the first three games.

In high school track and field, the CIF state championships begin today at Buchanan High School in Clovis.

Stephanie Bulder from Saugus is racing in two events, the 1,600 and the 3,200. She is one of three runners from Saugus in the 3,200. Kaylin Mahoney and Karis Frankian are also in the race.

Valencia’s Faith Anumba will be competing in the long jump and the triple jump.

Ten athletes from the Foothill League qualified for the state meet.

In the NBA playoffs, the Dallas Mavericks pulled out a 95-93 win over the Miami Heat in Game 2 of the NBA Finals. The Mavericks outscored the Heat, 24-18, in the fourth quarter and evened the series at a game apiece.

Dirk Nowitzki had 24 points and 11 rebounds for the Mavericks.

It was a light night of baseball in the major leagues.

The Giants beat the Cardinals, 12-7, the Mets slipped past the Pirates, 9-8, the Nationals beat the Diamondbacks, 6-1, and the Astros beat the Padres, 7-4.

In theAmerican League, the Mariners took care of Hart High graduate James Shields and the Rays, 8-2.

The Rangers downed the Indians, 7-4, and the Twins beat the Royals, 8-2.
