Santa Clarita Blue Heat Women’s Soccer Team Opens Against LA Strikers

The Santa Clarita Blue Heat women’s soccer team opens their season against the LA Strikers on Friday night at The Master’s College.

The Blue Heat won the W-League Western Conference championship last season. Kickoff is at 5.

On the men’s side, the Santa Clarita Storm welcomes the San Diego Flash for a National Premier League Soccer game at Canyon High School on Saturday night.

The Storm and the Flash are tied for second place with 5-1-2 records in the South West Division standings. Both teams are one point behind the division leading F.C. Hasental.

Kickoff is at 6.

In high school soccer, two Foothill League players with the Real So Cal team will compete in the Elite Clubs National League championships in Colorado in June.

Hart’s Hailey Jenkins and Angie Weiner from Saugus, both seniors, will play in the 16-team national championship tournament.

Real So Cal won the U18 SoCal Conference with a 12-1-1record.

In volleyball, Valencia’s Kyle Ensing was selected to join the USA Volleyball Indoor High Performance team and will train in Florida over the summer.

He was one of 55 players in the country chosen to play for the A1 team. Ensing, who will be a junior at Valencia High in the fall, is an outside hitter and an All-Foothill League selection.

In the Stanley Cup playoffs, the Kings will face the Chicago Blackhawks in the Western Conference finals. The Blackhawks beat the Detroit Red Wings, 2-1 in overtime, in Game 7 of their Western Conference semifinals.

The series between the Kings and the Blackhawks starts in Chicago on Saturday.

In baseball, the Dodgers lost to the Angels, 4-3, despite hitting two home runs in the ninth inning.

Adrian Gonzalez and Scott Van Slyke hit solo homers in the ninth inning to cut the Angels lead to one run. But the Angels held on to win the game.

Angels starter Jared Weaver went six innings and gave up one run on five hits to win his first game of the season.

About Connie Jones

Connie and her husband, John, moved to the Santa Clarita Valley almost 30 years ago. Living in Santa Clarita for that long is the direct opposite of Connie’s childhood. She was an Army ‘brat’ who moved every two to three years. Consequently, she has lived in many states and even spent three years in Europe. All three of her kids went to Santa Clarita schools. Connie says the best thing about her job at KHTS is that she is never bored. “If I’m not smiling, Carl is sure to ask why, just before giving me a mind-boggling project.” “KHTS AM-1220 is an integral part of our community and I’m glad to be a part of it. Besides, the DJs will take my request to play Shania Twain’s ‘Still the One’ for my wedding anniversary – gotta love that!”
