Santa Clarita Blue Heat Women’s Soccer Team Wins Conference Championship

khts_sportsThe Santa Clarita Blue Heat women’s soccer team won the United Soccer League W-League Western Conference championship after a scoreless tie against the Pali Blues at Canyon High School.

Goalkeeper  Cynthia Jacobo made six saves for the Blue Heat in the shutout. The Blues outshout the Blue Heat, 25-7, in the match. The Blue Heat finished the regular season with an 8-1-5 record.

They will play the Vancouver Whitecaps in the first round of the W-League playoffs on Sunday.

In auto racing, Connor Cantrell of Valencia finished fourth in the NASCAR Super Trucks race at Toyota Speedway at Irwindale and saw his lead in the standings trimmed slightly.

Ryan Partridge of Rancho Cucamonga won the race and was able to chip away at Cantrell’s lead.

Mark Borchetta of Valencia was third in the Legends Cars race. Brent Scheidemantle of Alta Loma won the race.

In baseball, the Angels coughed up eight runs in the first inning and lost to the A’s, 9-1. Connor Jackson hit a grand slam to cap the eight-run first and chase starter Joel Pineiro.

The Rangers beat the Mariners, 3-1, and won their 11th game in a row. The Tigers beat the White Sox, 4-3, the Yankees beat the Blue Jays, 7-2, the Orioles beat the Indians, 8-3, the Twins beat the Royals, 4-3, and the Red Sox beat the Rays, 1-0, in 16 innings.

In the National League, the Giants beat the Padres, 4-3 in 11 innings, and the Brewers beat the Rockies, 4-3.

The Reds beat the Cardinals, 3-1, the Phillies beat the Mets, 8-5, the Braves outslugged the Nationals, 9-8, the Pirates beat the Astros, 7-5 in 11 innings, and the Marlins beat the Cubs, 7-5.
