Santa Clarita Blue Heat’s Jacobo Wins Goalkeeper Of The Year

khts_sportsThe awards are starting to roll in for the players on Santa Clarita Blue Heat women’s soccer team. Cynthia Jacobo was selected as the goalkeeper of the year in the United Soccer League W-League. She is also one of three finalists for W-League rookie of the year.

Edite Fernandes is up for league most valuable player and Fabian Sandoval is nominated for coach of the year.

In the College of the Canyons cross country series, Daniel De La Torre won the men’s race in 15 minnutes, 22 seconds. He was followed by Sergio Gonzalez in second in 15 minutes, 34 seconds.

On the women’s side, Karen Rosas won in 18 minutes, 19 seconds. Nancy James-Klinger was second in 18 minutes, 26 seconds.

In baseball, the Angels powered past the Tigers, 12-7, behind a five-RBI day from Mark Trumbo. He hit a two-run homer, knocked in two more with a double and tripled.

In other games, the Rays beat the A’s, 10-8, and the Rangers beat the Twins, 4-1.

The Royals squeaked past the Red Sox, 4-3, and the Blue Jays beat the Orioles, 8-5.

In the National League, the Giants beat the Phillies, 4-1, and the Padres slipped past the Diamondbacks, 4-3.

The Mets outslugged the Reds, 10-9, the Marlins beat the Nationals, 5-2, the Brewers beat the Cubs, 4-2, the Pirates beat the Braves, 5-2, and the Astros beat the Cardinals, 5-3.
