The KHTS Sports Podcast – Tuesday, January 23

Boys Basketball

Don’t look now, but the SCCS Cardinals (10-9) are starting to make their move as the postseason draws nearer. After another dominating win Monday, this time a no contest 93-19 win at The Palmdale Aerospace Academy, the Cardinals have scored 80 or more points in five of their last nine games (8-1 during this stretch) and are a perfect 6-0 in the Heritage League.

They blew out Valencia by 25 in early January and ran their crosstown rival Trinity off the court last Friday, 93-47. With a balanced attack in which three to four scorers reaching double figures is becoming routine (four with 13 or more points on Monday), SCCS is playing its best basketball at the right time.

The Cardinals are up to No. 2 in the latest CIF-SS Division 5AAA polls, and they’ll likely make it a fifth straight win on Friday at 1-7 Guidance Charter.

The Master’s University

The No. 4 Mustangs men’s basketball team has been the talk of the collegiate winter sports season, and the KHTS Team of the Week for three straight weeks. To recap:

  • Won 18th straight game Saturday over No. 20 Westmont now 19-1 overall and 5-0 in GSAC
  • Four wins over NAIA Top 25 teams
  • Fifth in the nation in scoring (94.7 ppg)

It is imperative the Mustangs make it another great week with home conference games Thursday against Vanguard and Saturday against No. 7 Hope International (in the midst of its own 17-game winning streak).

The homestand is so vital because TMU has the toughest remaining schedule there after with five of seven on the road to close out the season.

It starts with Vanguard, with tip-off scheduled for 7:30 on Thursday.
