The Santa Clarita Christian boys basketball team got 36 points from Davion Cotterell in a 75-48 win over Milken. Cotterell hit five 3-pointers and his team scored 32 points in the third quarter to pull away. Luke Asher scored 10 points for Santa Clarita Christian.
The Santa Clarita Christian girls team lost to Milken, 57-25. Kaitlyn Preheim scored 10 points.
In high school basketball, first place in the Foothill League is up for grabs when the Golden Valley boys play at Valencia tonight. Saugus is at Canyon and Hart plays at West Ranch.
On the girls side, Canyon hosts Saugus. Surprising West Ranch is home against Hart and Golden Valley plays at Valencia.
In what looks like a rainy day for soccer, the Canyon boys will look to stay undefeated in Foothill League play against Saugus today. The Hart boys play at West Ranch and Golden Valley is at Valencia.
The Saugus girls are on the road at Canyon. Hart plays at West Ranch and Valencia is at Golden Valley.
Kobe Bryant has a sprained ankle and is coming off a season-low five points against the Charlotte Bobcats, but no one is expecting him to miss tonight’s game against the Denver Nuggets. Bryant has played in 234 consecutive games, fifth best among active NBA players. But he has battled through a number of injuries this year, including a broken finger and sore lower back.
Clippers coach Mike Dunleavy was fired as the team limped home from a dreadful 2-6 road trip which included embarrassing losses to the New Jersey Nets and the Minnesota Timberwolves. Dunleavy will remain as the Clippers general manager. Kim Hughes will take over as interim coach and will be tested right out of the gate. The Clippers play the San Antonio Spurs on Saturday night.
In college basketball, the UCLA Bruins are tied for first place in the Pac-10 standings after a 77-73 win over Stanford. Four teams are tied for first in the Pac-10. UCLA joins Arizona, Arizona State and Cal with 6-4 Pac-10 records.
USC is responsible in part for the logjam atop the Pac-10 standings. The Trojans beat Cal, 66-63.
The Kings had to rally in the third period to beat the Anaheim Ducks, 6-4, last night at Staples Center. Dustin Brown scored the eventual game-winner after the Kings blew a three-goal lead. Anze Kopitar had a big game, scoring two goals and adding two assists as the Kings won their eighth game in a row.
