Santa Clarita Christian Boys Basketball Team Cruises Past Vasquez

The Santa Clarita Christian boys basketball team beat Vasquez, 66-42. Larue Nixon scored 23 points, 16 in the second half, for Santa Clarita Christian.

Phillip Webb scored 20 points as the host Cardinals built an eight-point lead, 25-17, at halftime. Santa Clarita Christian improved to 6-4.

The Santa Clarita Christian girls basketball team lost to Vasquez, 49-12. Aubrey Robinson scored all 12 points for the Cardinals.

The basketball teams from the Foothill League resume play tonight. West Ranch, coming off a convincing win over previously undefeated Hart, plays Canyon tonight. The Cowboys beat Golden Valley in its league opener.

Valencia looks to win its second league game of the season against Golden Valley.

Saugus plays Hart. Both teams lost their league openers.

On the girls side, Canyon takes on West Ranch. Both teams won their league openers. Valencia plays Golden Valley. Hart travels to Saugus.

The Foothill League soccer season also continues today.

The Saugus girls, ranked No. 2 in the CIF Southern Section Division 2 poll, plays Hart. Valencia takes on Golden Valley. Canyon plays West Ranch.

The Hart boys soccer team, ranked No. 4 in the Southern Section Division 4 poll, plays Saugus. The West Ranch boys, which shut out Hart, 2-0, in the Foothill League opener, takes on Canyon.

Valencia, which is tied with West Ranch atop the Foothill League standings, plays Golden Valley.

In the NHL, the Kings will finally raise their one and only Stanley Cup championship banner at Staples Center.

The celebration is expected to take place before the Kings home opener against the Chicago Blackhawks on Jan. 19.

The NHL will play an abbreviated season after a 113-day lockout. The season is expected to start on Jan. 19. Those in attendance at the Kings home opener will also receive a replica Stanley Cup championship banner.
