Santa Clarita Christian Boys Soccer Team Earns First Playoff Berth In Five Years

khts_sportsThe Santa Clarita Christian boys soccer team is in the CIF playoffs for the first time in five years. With a 2-1 win over Pacifica of Santa Monica, the Santa Clarita Christian boys soccer team secured the second-place spot in the Heritage League standings and a berth in the CIF Southern Section playoffs. The last time Santa Clarita Christian made the playoffs was in 2006.

Giju Jung and Chad Latch each scored a goal in the second half for Santa Clarita Christian. Goalkeeper Ryan Otto made four saves.

The Trinity Classical Academy boys basketball team posted a couple of wins this week. The first was 55-51 over Newbury Park Adventist on Tuesday. The second was 54-49 over West Valley Christian on Wednesday.

Trinity erased a 15-point deficit against Newbury Park Adventist. James Brooks and Jordan Mumper each scored 23 points in the game.

Brooks had a triple-double in the game against West Valley Christian. He had 21 points, 26 rebounds and 10 blocked shots.

Spencer Klehn scored 15 points and 10 rebounds against West Valley Christian.

It’s a full night of college basketball in the Santa Clarita Valley.

The College of the Canyons men’s team is home for a game against Santa Monica College. The Master’s College men are home for a game against Pt. Loma Nazarene.

The College of the Canyons women’s basketball team is home against Santa Monica. The Master’s College women are home against Pt. Loma Nazarene.

The Saugus girls soccer team will look to complete an undefeated Foothill League season today at home against West Ranch.

Saugus is 9-0 in league play and has already wrapped up the Foothill League championship.

In other Foothill League games, the Canyon girls are on the road against Golden Valley. The Valencia girls travel to Hart.

The Santa Clarita Christian girls soccer team is home for a game against St. Mary’s.

The Hart boys soccer team will look to rebound after an unexpected loss to Golden Valley. Hart ends the Foothill League season on the road at Valencia.

The Golden Valley boys travel to Canyon. Saugus is at West Ranch.

The Valencia boys basketball team is home against Hart tonight. Valencia has the lead in the Foothill League standings and need a win over Hart, plus a Canyon loss, to win the league championship outright.

Canyon is home against Golden Valley. Saugus is on the road against West Ranch.

The Santa Clarita Christian boys basketball team is home for a game against crosstown rival Trinity Classical Academy.

The Canyon girls basketball team is home against Golden Valley. The Hart girls travel to Valencia. Saugus is at West Ranch.

With trade talks of Andrew Bynum for Carmelo Anthony in the air, the Lakers head into Boston for a game against the Celtics tonight.

The Celtics embarrassed the Lakers, 109-96, last month at Staples Center. It was one of several uninspired performances by the Lakers against championship contenders. It was also one of the reasons the Lakers are looking to make a trade to increase the intensity of the players on the roster.

The Lakers are coming off a 93-84 win against the Memphis Grizzlies on Monday. The Celtics lost to the Charlotte Bobcats, 94-89, on Monday.

The Kings are in Pittsburgh for a game against the short-handed Penguins tonight. The Kings have won two games in a row and are 2-1 on their current 10-game road trip.

Pittsburgh is stop No. 4 and the Penguins have lost their past two games, most recently, 4-1, to the Columbus Blue Jackets on Tuesday night.
