Santa Clarita Christian Girls Basketball Team Wins First CIF Playoff Game

khts_sportsThe Santa Clarita Christian girls basketball team made history last night, winning its first playoff game in school history.

Santa Clarita Christian beat St. Monica Academy of Pasadena, 38-32, in the wild-card round of the CIF Southern Section Division 6A playoffs.

Taylor Cubas scored 21 points to lead Santa Clarita Christian. Michelle Fechtelkotter scored eight points and had 10 rebounds in the win.

Next up for Santa Clarita Christian is Lake Arrowhead Christian, the No. 5 seed in the Division 6A playoffs, on Thursday.

The Canyon girls soccer team lost to Orange Lutheran, 2-0, in the wild-card round of the CIF Southern Section Division 1 playoffs.

Canyon finished in fourth place in the Foothill League standings and earned at at-large berth in the playoffs. The Canyon girls have an 11-6-7 record and were 3-4-3 in league.

The Canyon boys soccer team will try to make it past the wild-card round today. Canyon plays at Nipomo in the CIF Southern Section Division 3 playoffs.

The College of the Canyons men’s golf team won the Cal State Bakersfield Tournament by three strokes over Pt. Loma Nazarene.

COC shot 868 as a team over three rounds of the tournament. Sonoma State was third, four strokes behind COC.

Max Cohen led COC with a three-round total of 212. He was 4-under par for the tournament and shot a 1-under par, 71, in the final round. Ryan Indovina from Cal State Dominguez Hills was the individual leader at 6-under par.

It’s a busy day of CIF boys basketball playoffs.

Valencia is home for its first-round game. The Vikings will play Oxnard in the CIF Southern Section Division 1AA playoffs.

Hart is on the road in the first round of the Division 3AA playoffs against Arroyo Grande. West Ranch travels to Ventura, the top seed in the Division 2AA playoffs. Canyon is on the road against Buena in the first round of the Division 2AA playoffs.

The Santa Clarita Christian boys basketball team is home and plays Nuview Bridge in the first round of the Division 6AA playoffs.

In college basketball, The Master’s College women lost to Westmont, 70-68 in overtime. Zoe Scott scored a team-high 16 points in the loss. Erica Inge had 15 points and seven assists for The Master’s College.

The Master’s College men’s basketball team lost to Westmont, 77-76. Leif Karlberg, Devin Dyer and Anthony Cammon each scored 17 points for The Master’s College.

The College of the Canyons men are home for a game against Glendale College. The COC women are also home for a game against Glendale.

The Lakers wrap up their seven-game road trip tonight against the Cleveland Cavaliers. What started as a promising road trip has ended with a dose of desperation.

The Lakers won the first four games, but will look to avoid a three-game losing streak against the Cavaliers. Good news is the Cavaliers have won only one game in the past 28. They are coming off a loss to the Washington Wizards on Sunday.

The Valencia Flyers ice hockey team split a pair of games with the San Diego Gulls over the weekend. The Flyers lost the first game, 3-0, at the Ice Station, but won the second game, 3-1, at the Icoplex in Escondido.

The Flyers wrap up the regular season with a pair of games against the Bakersfield Junior Condors. Friday night’s game is at the Ice Sports Arena in Bakersfield. Saturday night’s game is at the Ice Station in Valencia.

The Kings are in Columbus for a game against the Blue Jackets tonight. The Kings have won two games in a row and four of their past five on the road.

The Blue Jackets are coming off a 2-1 win over the Dallas Stars on Sunday.
