Santa Clarita Christian Girls Soccer Team Ties Viewpoint, 1-1

news_sportsThe Santa Clarita Christian girls soccer team played to a 1-1 draw against Viewpoint.

Amanda Doty gave Santa Clarita Christian a 1-0 lead, scoring on a corner kick.

Viewpoint tied the game on a goal late in the second half.

In college basketball, The Master’s College men beat Azusa Pacific, 65-62. Four players from The Master’s College scored in double figures. Joey Fuca led the team with 17 points.

The Master’s College women fell one point short of beating Azusa Pacific, losing 74-73. Erica Inge scored 16 points and had eight assists and teammate Annie Gillespie scored 20 points hitting four 3-pointers.

The College of the Canyons will be sending nine players to play football at four-year colleges next year. Josh Gibbs, a defensive back who graduated from Valencia High School, is headed to the University of Kentucky and leads the list of four players headed to NCAA Division I schools.

In auto racing, Bryan Herta Autosport has a new driver. Stefan Wilson will compete in the Firestone Indy Lights Series in 2010 for the team owned by Herta, a Hart High graduate. Wilson is the younger brother of Justin Wilson, who will be driving in the Izod IndyCar Series next season.

The Dodgers are taking a gamble on a couple arms, signing Jeff Weaver and Ramon Ortiz to minor league contracts. Weaver was a spot starter and came out of the bullpen for the Dodgers last year. Ortiz, formerly of the Angels, last pitched in the major leagues in 2007 for the Colorado Rockies. He was on the 2002 Angels team that won the World Series.

The Lakers eeked out a 99-97 win over the Charlotte Bobcats. Andrew Bynum scored 17 points and had 14 rebounds, picking up for an injured Kobe Bryant. Bryant scored a season-low five points and apparently injured his foot in the game against the Bobcats.

The Clippers lost to the Atlanta Hawks, 103-97. Chris Kaman and Eric Gordon each scored a team-high 17 points for the Clippers.

The red-hot Kings are home against the Anaheim Ducks tonight at Staples Center. The Kings have won seven games in a row. The Ducks have caught fire recently as well, winners of three in a row, including 3-1 over the Detroit Red Wings last night. Pregame starts at 7 on AM 1220, KHTS.
