Santa Clarita Christian Soccer Coach Wins 100th Game

khts_sportsSoccer coach Steve Cooper won his 100th game at Santa Clarita Christian, but it was a nail-biter, despite one of his top scorers recording a hat trick.

The Santa Clarita Christian boys beat Vasquez, 4-3. Daniel Stratton scored three goals, but it was Chad Latch who came through with the game-winner.

Latch scored in the 82nd minute to put Santa Clarita Christian ahead.

Cooper will go for win No. 101 against Hillcrest Christian of Granada Hills on Saturday.

The Hart boys soccer team shut out Canyon, 3-0. Gabe Robinson had a goal and an assist. Goalkeeper Matt Ortiz made four saves and recorded the shutout.

In high school basketball, the Trinity boys beat Summit View, 62-34, behind a near triple-double from Ryan Brooks.

He scored 17 points, had 10 assists and eight rebounds.

The Saugus girls basketball team beat Golden Valley, 57-42. Megan Dawe had 16 points for Saugus.

In auto racing, Bryan Herta Autosport driver Alex Tagliani had a successful two-day test with the new Lotus engines the team will be using in the Izod IndyCar series this season.

Bryan Herta Autosport, owned by Valencia’s Bryan Herta, was part of a three-team test at the road course at Homestead-Miami Speedway in Florida.

Tagliani said the car has a lot of potential. More updates and upgrades are expected from Lotus as the start of the IndyCar Series in March approaches.

Testing continues in Sebring on Monday.

In the NBA, the Lakers evened things up in the battle of L.A. with a 96-91 win over the Clippers.

Pau Gasol scored 23 points and had 10 rebounds and Andrew Bynum scored 19 points for the Lakers in a physical game.

Six players received technical fouls and Lakers forward Josh McRoberts was ejected.

The Lakers and Clippers have met twice in the regular season. The Clippers won the first match-up earlier this month. The two teams meet again on April 4.

About Connie Jones

Connie and her husband, John, moved to the Santa Clarita Valley almost 30 years ago. Living in Santa Clarita for that long is the direct opposite of Connie’s childhood. She was an Army ‘brat’ who moved every two to three years. Consequently, she has lived in many states and even spent three years in Europe. All three of her kids went to Santa Clarita schools. Connie says the best thing about her job at KHTS is that she is never bored. “If I’m not smiling, Carl is sure to ask why, just before giving me a mind-boggling project.” “KHTS AM-1220 is an integral part of our community and I’m glad to be a part of it. Besides, the DJs will take my request to play Shania Twain’s ‘Still the One’ for my wedding anniversary – gotta love that!”
