Santa Clarita Christian’s Collin Keoshian Wins All-CIF Player Of The Year

sportslocalSanta Clarita Christian’s do-all running Collin Keoshian earned CIF Southern Section Division I 8-man Football Player of the Year honors. Keoshian, who’s headed to BYU as a linebacker, won the player of the year award for the second time in a row.

Teammate Daniel Chaplin was the Southern Section Co-Defensive Player of the Year and running back Colin Mayhugh earned a first-team selection. Seven Santa Clarita Christian football players made the All-Southern Section 8-man football team.

In high school basketball, the Valencia boys put together a balanced scoring effort in a 75-54 win over Morningside. Brandon Bennett led the team with 15 points. Jake Keifer, Stevie Sansone, Lonnie Jackson and Tanner Tredick each scored 11 for Valencia.

The Canyon girls lost a heartbreaker, 54-52, to Ventura. Brooke LeMar scored a team-high 24 points and Adriana Dent added 13 for Canyon.

The Alabama Crimson Tide beat Texas, 37-21, in the BCS championship game at the Rose Bowl, winning the national football title for the first time since 1992.

Heisman Trophy winner Marc Ingram rushed for 116 yards and two touchdowns for Alabama.

Texas played most of the game without starting quarterback Colt McCoy, who was knocked out the game in the first quarter.

The USC football team lost a quarterback. Little-used back-up Aaron Corp has decided to transfer to Richmond. He has two years of eligibility left and will most likely be the Richmond starting quarterback next season.

In hockey, the Kings lost to the visiting Detroit Red Wings, 2-1. Ryan Smyth scored a game-tying goal in the third period. But Darren Helm scored the game-winner with less than a minute to play in the game.
