Santa Clarita High School Football Scores – September 21, 2018

Santa Clarita high school football is back on the air for Week Five of the season. A 2-point conversion to win the game is no good for Valencia as the Vikings fall to Calabasas in overtime in the KHTS Game of the Week, while Canyon and Hart earn blowout victories over Royal and Ventura.

Week Five

KHTS Game of the Week

Final/Overtime

Calabasas (4-1): 21

Valencia (2-3): 20

Tale of two halves, as the Vikings controlled time of possession and came up with big stops on defense in the first half to take a 14-0 lead into the break.

In the second half, Calabasas has made the better adjustments, scoring on the opening drive of the 3rd quarter then using a bit of luck to scoop up a fumble to take it 22 yards to the end zone.

Valencia had a chance to win the game in regulation with a 33 yd field goal and 43 seconds left on the clock, but they could not get the hold down for an attempt. Overtime.

Calabasas got the ball first and scored on their overtime drive, then Valencia’s Luring Paialii (25 carries for 122 yards and three touchdowns) rumbled through the red zone and in to the end zone for his third touchdown of the game.

Second OT? Not for Larry Muir, as he opted to go for 2 and the win. The first attempt looked to be good with Paialii initially stopped then slipping across the line, but officials said he did not get in and a penalty on Calabasas meant a retry.

Paialii was stuffed before the goal line on the second attempt, ending the game 21-20.

Final

Hart (3-2): 38

Ventura (0-5): 7

Zach Johnson (three total touchdowns) continued his stellar play over the last four weeks as the Indians dominate on the road at Ventura.

Hart finishes the non-league schedule 3-2 and will host Saugus in the KHTS Game of the Week next Friday, the Foothill League season opener at College of the Canyons.

Final

Royal (1-5): 21

Canyon (2-3): 48

Canyon swarmed Royal all night, forcing turnovers and converting those turnovers into points (five touchdowns). Seven different Cowboys got in the end zone.

Canyon finishes the non-league schedule 2-3, and will face Valencia next week in the Foothill League opener.

West Ranch (5-0): BYE. Wildcats kept it rolling last week shutting out Oak Park.

Saugus (4-1): BYE. Saugus has four of the top ten rushers in the Foothill League.

Golden Valley (1-4): BYE. GV is averaging just 15 points per game.

Santa Clarita Christian (4-1): BYE. The Cardinals picked up a big win over rival Trinity 56-28 to head into the bye on high note.

  1. Your “Game of the Week Broadcast Schedule” shows “Ventura vs Hart” at COC on 9/21/18. I drove over there and there was no activity at COC. Now I see they played in Ventura.

Please double check the rest of your schedule and let me know of any corrections.

    -Thanks
