Santa Clarita Sports: Four Teams In Foothill League Baseball Begin Playoffs

In high school baseball, four teams from the Foothill League are in the CIF Southern Section Division 1 playoffs. Two of them are in action in the wild-card round on Wednesday.

West Ranch is home against Chaminade.

Saugus travels to play Alemany in the wild-card round.

Hart, the Foothill League champion, will open the playoffs on Friday. The Indians will play the winner of the wild-card game between Orange Lutheran and Newport Harbor.

Valencia has its first playoff game on Friday. The Vikings will play the winner of the wild-card game between Thousand Oaks and Martin Luther King.

The Santa Clarita Christian baseball team is the No. 1 seed in the Southern Section Division 7 playoffs. The Cardinals will play in the first round on Friday.

The Albert Einstein Academy baseball team is home for its wild-card game in the Division 7 playoffs against Coastal Christian on Wednesday.

In high school swimming, Abbey Weitzel won two CIF Southern Section titles and broke two national records at Riverside Community College.

She won the 50 and 100 yard freestyle races and has six CIF Southern Section titles in her high school career.

She won the 100 freestyle in 47.91 seconds, a national best. She won the 50 freestyle in 21.98 seconds, also a national record.

Valencia freshman Nikol Popov won two Southern Section titles at the meet. She won the 200-yard individual medley and the 100-yard breaststroke.

The Hart boys won the 400-yard freestyle relay. Hart’s Cole Cogswell, who swam the opening leg of the 400 freestyle relay, also won the 100-yard freestyle title.
