Santa Clarita Sports: Four Teams In Foothill League Softball Begin Playoffs

The Kings are in a familiar place, down in the NHL Stanley Cup playoffs.

The Kings lost to the Chicago Blackhawks, 3-1, in Game 1 of the Western Conference finals.

The Blackhawks scored a goal in each period. They were up 1-0 in the first period and 2-1 at the end of the second period.

Tyler Toffoli scored the only goal for the Kings in the second period.

Game 2 is in Chicago on Wednesday night.

In high school softball, Canyon opens the CIF Southern Section Division 1 playoffs in the wild-card round against Canyon Springs today.

Four teams from the Foothill League made the playoffs. West Ranch is home for its first-round game against Pacifica of Oxnard on Tuesday.

Saugus is also home in the first round against Canyon of Anaheim.

Valencia is on the road in the first round against Oxnard.

The Santa Clarita Christian softball team plays California Military Institute in the first round of the Southern Section Division 7 playoffs.

The Trinity Classical Academy softball team plays Hawthorne Math and Science Academy in the opening round.

In high school baseball, the Valencia freshman team won the Foothill League championship with a 14-1 record.

In golf, Valencia High graduate Max Homa won the BMW Charity Pro-Am on the Web.com Tour. He shot an 8-under 63 in the final round and won by one stroke at the Thornblade Club in South Carolina. It was hit first victory on the Web.com Tour.

In auto racing, Brian Richardson won the NASCAR Late Model twin 35s at Kern County Raceway Park in Bakersfield.

Chris Dalton won the Spec-Mods race, Kenny Smith won the SRL S2 Tour series race, Brandon Weaver won the INEX Legends race and Tyler Bannister won the Bandoleros race.

At Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Jack Hawksworth, the driver for Bryan Herta Autosport, will start 13th in the Indianapolis 500.

Ed Carpenter won the pole.

In the major leagues, the Los Angeles Dodgers lost to the Arizona Diamondbacks, 5-3. The Dodgers lost two of three games to the Diamondbacks over the weekend.

They are off to New York to start a series against the Mets on Tuesday.
