Santa Clarita Sports: Hart Boys Basketball Wins Foothill League Championship

The Hart boys basketball team won the Foothill League championship after toppling Valencia, 82-68.

The Hart boys ran their undefeated Foothill League record to 9-0. Valencia dropped to 6-3.

The West Ranch boys basketball team beat Golden Valley, 87-49, and moved into a second-place tie with Valencia for second place in the Foothill League standings.

The Canyon boys basketball team beat Saugus, 66-51. The Cowboys improved to 5-4 and is in fourth place in the Foothill League standings.

In girls basketball, Valencia trounced Hart, 64-24, and improved to 8-1 in the Foothill League standings.

The Canyon girls kept pace with Valencia after beating Saugus, 64-31. Canyon and Valencia are tied for first place in the Foothill League standings with one game to go.

The Golden Valley girls beat West Ranch, 71-61. Golden won its second Foothill League game of the season. West Ranch dropped to 4-5.

In high school soccer, the Hart boys won the Foothill League championship with a 2-0 shutout over Valencia. Hart won its first league title since 2008. Valencia won the previous two Foothill League championships.

The Hart girls shut out Valencia, 1-0, and moved into first place in the Foothill League standings. Hart has a 6-0-3 record in the Foothill League. Valencia dropped to 6-2-1.

The Canyon girls tied Saugus, 1-1.

In college basketball, The Master’s College women beat Concordia, 91-83. The Lady Mustangs, ranked No. 7 in the NAIA, improved to 19-5.

The Master’s College men upset Concordia, 76-67. Concordia is ranked No. 13 in the NAIA.

The Master’s College men improved to 15-9, but won only their third game in the Golden State Athletic Conference.

In college baseball, the College of the Canyons lost to San Diego Mesa, 8-5. San Diego Mesa scored four runs in the fifth inning to take the lead.

COC dropped to 3-4 overall.

In the NBA, the Lakers lost to the visiting Utah Jazz, 96-79. They have lost two games in a row. The Lakers play the Oklahoma City Thunder on Thursday night.

Sochi Olympic Update

In the Winter Olympics, Devin Logan won a silver medal in women’s freestyle skiing for the United States.

The US has won seven medals in the Winter Olympics in Sochi. Norway leads the medal count with 11 after Day 5. Norway has won four golds, three silvers and four bronze.
