Santa Clarita Sports: Hart Girls Soccer In First Championship Since 1999

The Hart girls soccer team is in the championship game of the CIF Southern Section Division 2 playoffs after shutting out West Torrance, 1-0.

Jenny Chavez returned from an ankle injury and gave the Hart girls a boost on offense. She scored the lone goal of the game in the second half.

The Hart girls will play in their first CIF championship game since 1999.

The Santa Clarita Christian girls lost to Gabrirelino, 4-1, in the semifinals of the Division 7 playoffs.

Santa Clarita Christian lost for the first time this season. The Santa Clarita Christian girls finish with a 19-1-4 record.

In high school basketball, the Canyon boys ended their surprising playoff run with a 77-59 loss to Canyon of Anaheim in the semifinals of the Division 2AA playoffs.

Ben Taufahema scored 18 points for the Cowboys. They reached the CIF semifinals in basketball for the third time in school history and tied the school record for wins in a season with 24.

In college baseball, College of the Canyons beat Glendale College, 3-2, in the Western State Conference opener.

Ryan Cruz tossed a complete-game five-hitter and struck out 13. COC improved to 5-8-1 overall on the season.

In the NBA, the Clippers knocked off the Suns in Phoenix, 104-96, and won their fifth game in a row.

The Lakers lost to the visiting New Orleans Pelicans, 132-125, and had their little two-game winning streak snapped.
