Santa Clarita Sports: Master’s College Women’s Basketball In Championship

The Master’s College women’s basketball team is in the championship game of the Golden State Athletic Conference tournament.

The Lady Mustangs take on Hope International. The Master’s College women beat Westmont, 73-52, in the semifinals.

The Lady Mustangs are the No. 7 team in the NAIA. They are making their first appearance in the Golden State Athletic Conference championship game since 2006.

College of the Canyons sophomore Keiona Mathews was selected as the Western State Conference North Division player of the year. She was also selected to the All-State team.

Mathews was second in the state in scoring with 24.8 points per game. She set five school records at COC including most points in a game with 47.

Mathews was selected to the All-State third team. She is the 25th player from COC to earn all-state honors.

In Santa Clarita high school volleyball, the West Ranch boys won the San Luis Obispo Midstate tournament. The Wildcats beat Trabuco Hills, 25-18, in the final game.

Andrew Dieterle was selected as tournament MVP. Ethan Marshall was selected to the all-tournament team.

In high school baseball, West Ranch shut out Alemany, 2-0, in the Easton Tournament. Parker Bacon drove in both runs for West Ranch.

The Wildcats play in the semifinals of the tournament today. They are 3-0 to start the season.

The Canyon baseball team beat Village Christian, 3-1, in the semifinals of the California Invitational. Jason Rowe drove in two runs for Canyon. The Cowboys are 4-0 to start the season.

The Valencia baseball team crushed Dos Pueblos, 18-7, in the Easton Tournament. Valencia hit six home runs in the game. Devin Davis and Keston Hiura each hit two. Hiura drove in four runs.

In the NBA, the Clippers beat the visiting Phoenix Suns, 112-105. The Clippers have won eight games in a row. They take on the Golden State Warriors on Wednesday.

In the NHL, the Kings beat the Calgary Flames, 3-2, and won their eighth game in a row.

The Kings return home to Staples Center for a game against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Thursday night.
