Santa Clarita High School Baseball

Saugus (7-3) remains right on Valencia’s heels after an incredible nine-run fifth inning blew its game with West Ranch (6-4) wide open, Wednesday.

The Wildcats got off to a hot start with four runs in the top of the first, but the Centurions got three back in the third before the fifth inning explosion. The Cents cruised from there to a 12-5 victory.

Saugus’ starter Jacob Lopez settled down after his bad first inning and Caden Salkeld was excellent in long relief (three IP, two hits, one ER).

Trace Eldridge smacked his second home run of the season (3-for-4 with four RBI) for the Valencia Vikings (8-2) in their 12-4 win over Canyon (3-7) to maintain their one-game lead on Saugus.

Damien Balboa went four innings and allowed one run in the victory.

The woes continue for Golden Valley (1-9), with nothing going in a 15-0 shellacking at the hands of the Hart Indians (5-5). Twelve Hart batters recorded hits in the victory, and the trio of Jake Lewis (2 IP), Brendan Henry (4 IP), and Scott Tompkins (1 IP) combined for the shutout.

Thusday’s Foothill League softball schedule (first pitch across the Santa Clarita Valley is at 3:15):

Valencia (4-1) vs West Ranch (2-3)

Golden Valley (1-4) vs Saugus (5-0)

Canyon (2-3) vs Hart (1-4)

COC Baseball

The penultimate game of the Canyons baseball season is today at home against Antelope Valley. First pitch is at 2:30 pm.

Los Angeles Rams

The LA Rams’ front office and Rams Faithful alike have been waiting all offseason for this moment: the 2016 NFL Draft.

Two weeks ago, the Rams traded up from pick No. 15 to the 1st overall selection with Tennessee Titans, and in just a few hours Los Angeles will be the first team on the clock.

What seems assured at this point is that the Rams are looking to make a splash in the LA market with the most important position in team sports, quarterback.

Will it be the prototypical pocket passer from CAL, Jared Goff? Or the stalwart with the big arm from Division 1-AA North Dakota State, Carson Wentz?

Los Angeles Dodgers

It’s been an ugly week for the Dodgers at home. Three straight losses to the Miami Marlins have the Dodgers sitting at 12-10 after last night’s 2-0 shutout.

Tonight, the Dodgers look to avoid the four-game sweep. They’ll send Kenta Maeda (3-0, 0.36) to the mound who has been electric in April.

First pitch is at 7:10, and catch the action live on AM-1220 KHTS.
