Santa Clarita Sports Report: April 29, 2015 – The College of the Canyons women’s track and field team won the Western State Conference championship at Santa Barbara City College.
It was the first time in school history the COC women’s track and field team won the conference title.
Mikala Fairchild won the 1,500. Dominique Dowell won the 10,000 meters and Jada Selexman won the 400 meter hurdles.

The COC men were second in the Western State Conference championships. Ethan Walker won two events, the 800 meters and the 10,000 meters. He was the runner-up in the 1,500 meters and the 5,000 meters.
In college softball, eight players from College of the Canyons were selected to the All-Western State Conference team.
Lauren Anderson was the conference player of the year. She was also selected to the All-State team.
Kaitlyn Shreves was selected to the All-Conference first team.
Three players earned spots on the All-Conference second team and three players were honorable mentions.
In college golf, the College of the Canyons men’s team won the Western State Conference Championships at Rancho Vista Golf Club.
The COC men have won six conference championships in a row.
In the NBA, the Clippers lost to the San Antonio Spurs, 111-107, in Game 5 of their Western Conference playoff series.

The Spurs lead the series, 3-2. Game 6 is in San Antonio on Thursday.
In the major leagues, the Dodgers lost to the visiting San Francisco Giants, 2-1. Dodgers starter Clayton Kershaw took the loss and dropped to 1-2.
Game 3 of the series between the Dodgers and Giants is tonight. Zack Greinke starts for the Dodgers against Ryan Vogelsong for the Giants.
