Oh, how the mighty have fallen.

Once a top three team in the CIF-SS, the West Ranch Wildcats (2-4) have struggled mightily since the start of the Foothill League season.

And Valencia (5-1) put the exclamation point on that struggle, Thursday. The Vikings pummeled the Wildcats, 16-1 for their fourth victory in a row to stay one game back of Saugus. West Ranch was swept by their west side rivals and was outscored 27-2 in the two games this season.

Saugus (6-0) kept its bid for an undefeated season alive and well with a 12-0 blanking of Golden Valley (1-5).

The Centurions did all of their damage in the first four innings and cruised from there on out, extending their winning streak to seven games.

Canyon (3-3) evened its league record with a 13-11 shootout win at Hart (1-5).

Friday’s Foothill League baseball schedule (each game starts at 3:30):

Saugus (7-3) vs West Ranch (6-4)

Valencia (8-2) vs Canyon (3-7)

Hart (5-5) vs Golden Valley (1-9)

COC Baseball

Chase Wheatcroft (7-1) 5 and 1/3 solid innings for the Cougars and Jake Spurlin and Anthony Lepre each had three hits to lead Canyons to a 6-3 home win over Antelope Valley.

It’s a good sign for the Cougars, who have put together two straight good wins after their late-season slump.

The final game of the regular season is today at Antelope Valley at 2:30 pm.

Los Angeles Rams

All eyes of the football world were squarely focused on Los Angeles, Thursday night, as the Rams selected first overall in the 2016 NFL Draft.

And for the first time in over twenty years, LA used the No. 1 pick to draft a new franchise quarterback.

Jared Goff, from the University of California-Berkeley is the new face of the Los Angeles Rams.

Los Angeles Dodgers

Don Mattingly’s Marlins completed the rare four-game road sweep of the Dodgers on Thursday night, handing Kenta Maeda the first loss of his MLB career in the 5-3 defeat.

Los Angeles was woeful offensively in the series, mustering up just eight runs in the four games.

Tonight, the Dodgers welcome the San Diego Padres to Dodger Stadium for a weekend series. First pitch is at 7:10.
