Dodgers On Five Game Slide – Santa Clarita Sports Report – August 15, 2018

Los Angeles Dodgers

The Dodgers losing streak is up to five games after yet another one run loss. Of the five losses, four have come by just one run, suggesting the Dodgers still aren’t far away from the form the need to be in come playoff time. The only problem is, this time last year the National League West was wrapped up; both the Diamondbacks and Rockies are better teams and putting up a serious fight in a race that looks to be coming down to the final week of the season.

Even though Los Angeles fell to rival San Francisco 2-1 last night, perhaps they found the spark needed to galvanize the team. Yasiel Puig and Giants catcher Nick Hundley exchanged some words during a Puig at-bat, leading to a benches clearing scuffle and both players being ejected.

We don’t condone violence, but sometimes showing some passion and sticking up for your teammates is what’s needed in the dog days of summer.

“When I missed the pitch, I knew that was the best pitch Watson was going to throw me, so I was a little upset,” Puig said. “[Hundley] told me to stop complaining and get back into the box, and when I got into his face he told me to also get out of his face, so that’s when I got upset.” (quotes taken via Chris Haft and Dodgers.com)

Yes, the Dodger bats have been cold. Manny Machado’s hitting .258 for L.A., and Matt Kemp has cooled to .280. Yes, the bullpen has looked particularly shaky as Dave Roberts has shuffled it around a bit in August.

But, the Dodgers slumped in September last year and still made it to Game 7 of the World Series. They have more than enough time to sort it out, especially when their best pitcher is rounding in to form and other guys are coming off the disabled list.

Speaking of which, Hyun-Jin Ryu will make his first appearance tonight since May 2nd, due of a serious groin injury. That’s a great development for the club after moving Kenta Maeda and Ross Stripling to the pen. The Dodgers look to avoid the sweep with first pitch at 7:10, and be sure to catch all the action live on your Dodgers station for Santa Clarita, KHTS 98.1.
