Santa Clarita High School Football

The CIF Southern Section’s preseason football polls were released early this week, and the lone ranked team in the Santa Clarita Valley is the Santa Clarita Christian Cardinals, coming in at No. 4 in the Division 13 poll.

SCCS is led by the return of starting quarterback Tristan Miller. The 6’2″, 190 lb senior threw for 3,476 yards and 41 touchdowns in his junior season. Miller also gets his top two receiving targets back in junior Caden Brenner and fellow 2017 classmate Jacob Moss.

SCCS opens the season this Friday on the road at Horizon Christian Academy (San Diego). The Cardinals beat Horizon 49-7 in 2015 with Miller throwing for nearly 400 yards and 6 touchdowns.

Los Angeles Dodgers

How many Major League Baseball players can say they hit a home run and caught the birth of their son in the same night?

It’s just another wonderful moment to add to an already memorable summer for Dodgers’ 27-year-old rookie Rob Segedin. Segedin homered in the second inning and was substituted by Dave Roberts in the eighth. He raced to the hospital to greet baby Robinson and his wife.

Only a year removed from being demoted from Triple-A to Double-A and on the verge of retiring, Segedin is contributing for the National League West-leading Dodgers.

The Dodgers pounded the Giants 9-5 at Dodger Stadium on Tuesday to create a two-game separation between them and rival San Francisco at the top of West standings.

MAEDA CONSISTENT: Kenta Maeda earned his sixth consecutive victory to move to 13-7 on the season with a solid 3.37 ERA. Maeda has allowed more than 3 runs just twice since June 30th.

ROOKIE OF THE YEAR: Corey Seager continues to dominate at the plate. The rookie had another 3-for-4 night, clubbing his 35th double of the season and pushing his average to .324. That’s third in the National League.

Game 2 of the midweek showdown is tonight at 7:10 with Rich Hill taking on Johnny Cueto. Catch tonight’s game on your hometown station, AM-1220 KHTS.

Los Angeles Dodgers 70-55

San Francisco Giants 68-57 (2 GB)
