Santa Clarita Sports Report: August 31, 2015 – The Saugus football team opened with a 37-21 win over Simi Valley on the road.
Saugus leaned on its defense in its season opener.
Linebacker Daniel Gilmartin returned an interception for a touchdown in the third quarter. The touchdown gave Saugus a 13-point lead. The Saugus defense shut out Simi Valley in the second half.

In other action, Golden Valley won its season opener, 23-6, over Antelope Valley.
Golden Valley quarterback Victor Corona threw two touchdown passes.
The West Ranch football team blew out San Marcos, 62-14.

Quarterback Jackson Clark threw five touchdown passes and rushed for two more. He passed for 290 yards and rushed for 30.
The Canyon football team lost to Calabasas, 49-14. Canyon trailed 35-0 at halftime and scored its first touchdown in the third quarter.
In auto racing, Gabby Chaves, driving for Bryan Herta Autosport on the Verizon IndyCar Series, was 14th in the season finale at the Grand Prix of Sonoma.
Scott Dixon won the race, his third of the season, and captured the IndyCar Series championship. It was the fourth championship of his career.
