Santa Clarita Sports Report: December 08, 2014: The Valencia boys basketball team won the Simi Valley Tournament, downing Santa Barbara, 79-64, in the championship game.

Dakota Abbott scored 30 points in the game against Santa Barbara. He was selected as the tournament MVP.

Malik McCowan had 13 points and eight rebounds in the championship game. He was selected to the all-tournament team.

The Valencia boys begin play in the Ventura County Classic at Royal High School today.

Santa Clarita Sports

The Santa Clarita Christian boys basketball team won the SCCS Tip-Off Tournament. The Cardinals beat Albert Einstein Academy, 66-42, in the championship game.

Alik Airapetyan scored 14 points, had six assists and four steals in the game against Einstein.

The Santa Clarita Christian boys improved to 4-0.

In girls basketball, Saugus beat Royal, 52-49 in overtime in the Valencia High-Five Shootout.

Maryrose Elias and Maria Lopez each scored 10 points for Saugus.

The Valencia girls beat Antelope Valley, 49-29, in their final game in the High-Five Shootout.

The Valencia girls improved to 4-0.

In high school cross country, the Saugus girls were 11th in the Nike Cross Nationals meet in Portland, Ore.

Samantha Ortega was the top-finishing runner for Saugus in 18 minutes, 45 seconds on the 5K Glendoveer Golf Course.

Brian Zabilski from Saugus competed as an individual in the meet and was 66th overall.

Los Angeles Sports

In the NBA, the Lakers lost to the New Orleans Pelicans, 104-87. The Lakers lost their third game in a row. They dropped to 5-16 on the season.

Next up for the Lakers are the Sacramento Kings on Tuesday night.
