Santa Clarita Sports Report: December 12, 2014: The Canyon and Valencia boys basketball teams are coasting through the Ventura County Classic.
Canyon beat Ventura, 59-54. Ben Taufahema had another big game with 32 points and four assists.
Canyon improved to 3-2.
The Valencia boys beat Oak Park, 68-55. Dakota Abbott scored 33 points and made seven 3-pointers for Valencia.
Valencia is 5-2.
Santa Clarita Sports
The Saugus girls basketball team beat AGBU, 46-38, in the Milken Tournament. Mija Williams scored 20 points and Maria Lopez had 12 for Saugus.
The Centurions are 6-2.
In college basketball, The Master’s College women beat Westmont, 70-67, in a match-up of top 20 teams in the NAIA.
Olivia Thompson hit a half-court, 3-pointer at the buzzer to win the game. The Master’s College, ranked No. 20 in the NAIA, improved to 7-3. Westmont, the No. 11 team in the NAIA, dropped to 7-3.
In high school soccer, the Canyon girls lost to Alemany, 1-0. Alemany scored a goal in the 33rd minute.
The Canyon girls are still looking for their first win of the season. They are 0-2-1.
Alemany is undefeated and improved to 4-0.
In the major leagues, the Dodgers made another move, trading Matt Kemp to the San Diego Padres in a five-player deal.
The Dodgers sent Kemp and catcher Tim Federowicz to the Padres for Yasmani Grandal and two prospects.
The Dodgers also signed free-agent pitcher Brandon McCarthy to a four-year deal.
Los Angeles Sports
In the NHL, the Kings beat the Ottawa Senators, 5-3. The Kings scored three goals in the third period to win the game.
Jake Muzzin had three assists in the game. Tanner Pearson scored his 11th goal of the season.
