Santa Clarita Sports Report: December 23, 2014

Santa Clarita Sports Report: December 23, 2014: The College of the Canyons men’s basketball team won the Santa Rosa Junior College Kris Kringle Classic Tournament.

COC beat Santa Rosa Junior College, 69-59, in the championship game. The Cougars trailed 37-26 at halftime, but scored 43 points in the second half to win the game.

Tullio Parry, Ricardo Greaves and Coley Apsay were selected to the all-tournament team.

Apsay earned tournament MVP honors. He is averaging 18 points and four assists per game after the game 11 games of the season.

COC has won three games in a row and four of their past five. They are 7-4 on the season.

The COC men begin play in the Cougar Holiday Classic on Saturday.

The College of the Canyons women’s basketball team went 2-1 in the Coast Christmas Classic in Costa Mesa.

The Lady Cougars beat Chaffey College, 69-55, and Orange Coast College, 79-65. They lost to Palomar College, 48-33, in their second game of the tournament.

Julie Ilsby was selected to the all-tournament team. She averaged 14 points and five assists in three games in the tournament.

The COC women play in the East Los Angeles College Husky Classic this weekend.

In high school basketball, the Canyon boys lost to Crescenta Valley, 74-64, in the San Fernando Valley Invitational.

Ben Taufahema scored 21 points for Canyon.

In the NBA, the Clippers lost to the San Antonio Spurs, 125-118. The Clippers have lost two of their past three games.

They play the Hawks tonight in Atlanta.

Los Angeles Sports News

In the NHL, the Kings lost to the visiting Calgary Flames, 4-3, in overtime.

The Flames scored two goals in the second period to tie the score. They scored the game-winner in the final minute of overtime.

Next up for the Kings are the San Jose Sharks on Saturday.
