The 2017 Santa Clarita high school football season officially ended this past Friday, with two tough losses for Foothill League teams in the CIF SS Championships.

Valencia lost to Oaks Christian by one point in the CIF-SS Division 2 title game.

Golden Valley’s special teams miscues were too much to overcome in Division 6 title game defeat to Bishop Diego.

The complete Division 2 & 6 recap is here.

The Cougars (25-6) were at the top of their game in the CCCAA State Championship tournament at Solano College, Saturday, competing for the California state championship, falling just short of the Finals in a wild five set thriller to eventual state champion Irvine Valley College.

Canyons swept Feather River in the Quarterfinals to take on No. 1 Irvine Valley, and their Semifinal match was for and away the best match of the tournament and the most undefeated Irvine had been pushed all season long.

The final three games were each decided by two points, including a 16-14 fifth set. Irvine went on to defeat San Joaquin Delta, 3-1, in the Finals.

Former Valencia Vikings teammates Emily Burns and Rachel Perez put up big numbers this season for COC. Burns was fifth in the state in kills per set (4.61) and Perez finished second in assists per set (10.92).
