Hart beat Canyon, 58-50, and moved all alone to first place in league.

Four players scored in double figures. Nicole Benz led the way with 14 and made four 3-pointers.

The Hart girl are 17-5 overall and 5-1 in league.

The Golden Valley girls basketball team beat Saugus, 50-44. LaDaesha Merriweather scored 22 points.

The Golden Valley girls are 15-7 and 3-3 in league.

The Saugus boys basketball team beat Golden Valley, 74-61, and won its second Foothill League game in a row.

Ryan McClenahan scored 21 points, 10 in the fourth quarter. Saugus improved to 12-12 overall and 2-4 in league.

The Hart boys basketball team beat Canyon, 61-52. Charlie Masino scored 21 points for Hart. The Indians improved to 14-8 overall and 4-2 in league.

The Valencia boys beat West Ranch, 57-51, erasing a nine-point deficit in the fourth quarter.

Valencia moved into sole possession of first place in the Foothill League with a 5-1 record.

West Ranch dropped to 4-2 and is tied with Hart for second place in league.

In the NFL, the New England Patriots won Super Bowl XLIX, 28-24, over the Seattle Seahawks.

Patriots quarterback Tom Brady was selected as the Super Bowl MVP. He has won four Super Bowls and is the first quarterback to play in six Super Bowls.

In the NBA, the Lakers lost to the New York Knicks, 92-80. They have lost 10 of their past 11 games.

The Lakers take on the Milwaukee Bucks on Wednesday night.
