Santa Clarita Sports Report: February 23, 2015

Santa Clarita Sports Report: February 23, 2015: The Hart girls basketball team easily beat Moorpark, 71-50, in the first round of the CIF Southern Section Division 2A playoffs.

Breze Kimble scored 24 points to lead Hart, the No. 2 seed in the playoffs.

The Hart girls led 43-26 at halftime and coasted the rest of the game.

The Canyon girls basketball team won its first-round game, 43-33, over Eastside in the Southern Section Division 2AA playoffs.

Delaney McCann led Canyon with 11 points. The Canyon girls play Oak Hills in the second round on Wednesday.

The Valencia girls beat Long Beach Jordan, 81-49, in the first round of the Southern Section Division 1AA playoffs.

Talia Roth scored 16 points and had five steals for Valencia. The Vikings play Upland in the second round on Wednesday.

The Golden Valley girls lost to Patriot, 49-47, in a wild finish to their first round Southern Section Division 2A playoff game.

Golden Valley was down, 40-25, entering the fourth quarter. The Golden Valley girls cut the lead to two points with 16 seconds to play, but could not eliminate the deficit.

High School Sports

The Saugus girls lost to Tesoro, 60-36, in the first round of the Southern Section Division 2AA playoffs.

The Santa Clarita Christian girls lost to Cal Lutheran, 42-11, in the first round of the Southern Section Division 6A playoffs.

In the NBA, the Lakers beat the visiting Boston Celtics, 118-111 in overtime and snapped a seven-game losing streak.

The Lakers travel to Utah for a game against the Jazz on Wednesday night.
