Santa Clarita Sports Report: January 15, 2015

Santa Clarita Sports Report: January 15, 2015: The Hart boys basketball team downed Canyon, 50-40, in the Foothill League opener for both teams.

Myles Franklin scored 25 points, 14 in the fourth quarter, for Hart.

The Indians improved to 10-5 overall. Canyon dropped to 10-9.

The upset of the night came across town at West Ranch High. The West Ranch boys beat Valencia convincingly, 65-52, in their Foothill League opener.

Ryan Beddeo scored 29 points for West Ranch. He scored 27 in the second half.

West Ranch is 9-8. Valencia fell to 12-5.

The Golden Valley boys basketball team beat Saugus, 62-52, and won its first Foothill League game since 2009.

Bryce Tyler-St. Clair scored 14 points for Golden Valley. The Grizzlies improved to 8-9. Saugus dropped to 10-10.

The Santa Clarita Christian boys basketball team beat Milken, 75-41.

The Golden Valley girls basketball team opened Foothill League play with a 53-51 win over Saugus.

In high school soccer, the Hart girls shut out Canyon, 2-0, and won their eighth game in a row.

Sarah Lindborg scored both goals for Hart. The Indians are 9-3-2.

The Saugus boys shut out Golden Valley, 3-0, in their Foothill League opener.

Trevor Mangan scored two goals for Saugus. The Centurions improved to 9-3-2.

The West Ranch boys beat Valencia, 2-1, in their Foothill League opener. Brendan Moskal and Chris Alomia scored for West Ranch.

In the NBA, the Clippers beat the Portland Trail Blazers, 100-94. The Clippers have won three of their past four games.

They take on the Cleveland Cavaliers on Friday night.

Los Angeles Sports

In the NHL, the Kings lost to the New Jersey Devils, 5-3. The Devils scored four goals in the second period to take a 5-1 lead.

The Kings have lost four of their past five games.

Next up for the Kings are the Anaheim Ducks on Saturday night.
