USA Olympic Swimming Trials
Friday, Saugus swimmer Abbey Weitzeil 100 meter Freestyle Final at the US Olympic Team Trials.
Weitzeil won the Semifinal round, posting a 53.57-second time. If she wins again, she becomes a United States Olympian.
Over the weekend the former Centurion will compete in her other event, the 50 meter Freestyle, where she is a favorite to qualify as well.
2016 College World Series
Jared Oliva and the Arizona Wildcats were looking good heading into Game 2 after a 3-0 opening College World Series win over Coastal Carolina.
But back-to-back one-run losses (5-4 in Game 2 and 4-3 Friday) resulted in Arizona’s undoing. Oliva provided most of the offense in the winner-take-all Game 3, going 1-for-4 with 2 RBI, but it wasn’t enough for the Wildcats.
Arizona outhit CC 8-5 in the game, but couldn’t manufacture enough runs.
Santa Clarita Blue Heat
Three games remain for the Blue Heat to make its move to the top of the United Women’s Soccer table.
That starts with tonight in Colorado. Santa Clarita faces the worst team in the West Conference, the Colorado Storm. It’s imperative they secure all three points if they hope to overtake Houston and Real Salt Lake.
Santa Clarita Blue Heat vs Colorado Storm
5 Star Stadium, Thornton, Colorado
Kickoff is at 6:00 PM PST.
Los Angeles Dodgers
More injury updates on the status of Dodgers’ ace Clayton Kershaw. Kershaw has a mild herniated disc that won’t require surgery following an MRI on Thursday.
Though it won’t require surgery, it will keep him out for an indefinite amount of time, starting with a stint on the 15-day disabled list. Depending on how his back responds to treatment will say whether he will come off the DL in the minimum time or will need an extension.
Journeyman right-hander Bud Norris (3-7, 4.22 ERA) will make the spot start in Kershaw’s absence Friday night at Dodger Stadium against the Colorado Rockies.
It will be a tall task for Norris as he faces Nolan Arenado and the powerful Rockies’ offense.
First pitch is at 7:10 PM, and you can hear the great Vin Scully on the call on your hometown station, AM-1220 KHTS.
