Santa Clarita Sports Report: July 16, 2015

Santa Clarita Sports Report: July 16, 2015 – Four softball players from the Foothill League were selected to the Cal Hi Sports All State Underclass first team.

Valencia freshman Ally Shipman and Hart junior Raquel Blanchard earned spots as catchers on the first team.

Saugus junior Mariah Lopez was selected to the first team as a pitcher.

West Ranch junior Jessie Harper earned a spot on the first team as an infielder.

Kayla Kessinger from Saugus and Abby Sweet from Hart were selected as infielders on the All State second team.

In the major leagues, the Dodgers made a trade during the All Star break. They traded with the Miami Marlins for left-handed pitcher Grant Dayton for pitcher Chris Reed.

Dayton is expected to report to the Dodgers AAA team in Oklahoma City.

The Dodgers are off to Washington, D.C., to start a weekend series with the Nationals on Friday.

The Dodgers won four of their past five games before the All Star break. They have a 51-39 record and lead the National League West standings by 4 ½ games over the San Francisco Giants.
