College World Series

Two former Santa Clarita standout baseball players are making noise for the University of Arizona in the 2016 College World Series.

Valencia alumnus Jared Oliva launched his first home run in over two months and West Ranch (and COC great) grad JC Cloney tossed seven scoreless innings as the Wildcats eliminated UC Santa Barbara with a 3-0 win.

Up next for Oliva and Cloney is the Bracket 1 Final on Friday and Saturday against the Oklahoma State Cowboys.

Los Angeles Dodgers

It was a wild ending at Dodger Stadium last night, where Yasiel Puig and the Dodgers walked off in the most improbable of ways.

Down 3-2 in the bottom of the ninth inning with Howie Kendrick on first base, Puig stepped up and knocked a routine groundball single up the gut.

However, it ended up anything more than routine for Nationals centerfielder Michael Taylor, who let the ball skip by him. And boy was Puig alert.

The enigmatic outfielder was at his baserunning-best, skirting all the way home for an inside-the-park two-run homer to win the game 4-3 over Washington and sweep the NL East leaders.

The Dodgers have put together their best run since the first week of the season, winning eight of their last nine games. They still sit six games back of rival San Francisco.

Today is an off-day for Los Angeles.
