Santa Clarita Sports Report – June 27, 2018

Los Angeles Dodgers

Ross Stripling turned in yet another solid start (five innings and one earned run).

The rest of the Dodgers’ relievers didn’t care to show up at all, giving up eight runs in the final four innings; the Cubs 9-4 win snapped a six game losing streak at Chavez Ravine.

The Dodgers will look for redemption tonight in the third game of the four game set. First pitch is at 7:00 with Alex Wood battling Kyle Hendricks.

Los Angeles has loved the month of June the past two seasons. Last season, the Dodgers set a franchise record with 53 home runs in the month of June. This season, the Dodgers are at 48 bombs with four more games to go before the calendar turns to July.

Strong possibility the Dodgers will be getting back to breaking franchise records very soon.

2018 FIFA World Cup

The defending champions have fallen.

It’s inexplicable, but for the third consecutive World Cup, the previous World Cup winner will not advance to the knockout round. The fourth time in five World Cups.

South Korea toppled Germany 2-0 in dramatic fashion, with both goals scored in stoppage time (the 93rd and 96th minutes). Another incredible end to a group.

With Sweden’s 3-o victory over Mexico well in hand midway through the second half, all Germany needed was one goal to move on to the next round and deliver the final blow to Mexico.

Mexico thanked the South Koreans accordingly.

Brasil won Group G with Switzerland in second place, setting up a Round of 16 match between Brasil and Mexico on Monday, July 2nd. Switzerland will take on Group F winner Sweden.
