Santa Clarita Sports Report: May 19, 2015

Santa Clarita Sports Report: May 19, 2015 – The Saugus baseball team opens the CIF Southern Section Division 1 playoffs on the road against Newbury Park today in the wild-card round.

Saugus is the third place team from the Foothill League. Newbury Park finished in third place in the Marmonte League.

The winner plays Notre Dame of Sherman Oaks.

Hart opens the playoffs at home against Alemany on Thursday. Hart won the Foothill League championship.

Valencia is on the road in the first round against Loyola.

In high school softball, West Ranch plays Edison at home in the first round of the Southern Section Division 1 playoffs on Thursday. West Ranch won the Foothill League championship.

The Valencia softball team is home against Charter Oak in the first round of the playoffs.

Hart travels to Canyon of Anaheim for its first-round game.

In auto racing, Gabby Chaves, driving for Bryan Herta Autosport, qualified 29th for the 99th running of the Indianapolis 500.

Chaves was the fastest rookie to qualify for the Indy 500. Bryan Herta Autosport is owned by Valencia’s Bryan Herta.

Los Angeles Sports

Scott Dixon won the pole for the Indy 500.

In the major leagues, the Dodgers are in San Francisco to start a series against the Giants tonight.

Carlos Frias starts for the Dodgers against Tim Hudson for the Giants. First pitch is at 7:15.
