Santa Clarita High School Baseball

Valencia (21-6, 9-2) had an excellent weekend, extending its winning streak to five games with an extra innings 7-3 win over Canyon (3-8, 8-14) on Friday, and an 8-0 shutout against Thousand Oaks on Saturday.

The Vikings exploded for four runs in the top of the eighth inning at Canyon. Trace Eldridge smashed his second home run of the week.

West Ranch (7-4, 17-8) got its biggest win of the season by pounding Saugus (7-4, 16-8) 11-2 to put the Wildcats level with the Centurions for second place in the Foothill League.

Danny Luevano hit two RBI doubles to pace the Wildcats offense.

Hart (6-5, 14-11) made it look much too easy against Golden Valley (1-10, 5-16), racking up 14 runs on 24 hits. Twelve Indians batters hit safely in the game.

There’s a big Santa Clarita Valley non-league  game on the schedule Monday at The Master’s College:

Saugus vs Santa Clarita Christian at 4:15 pm

College of the Canyons

COC Baseball finished the season by sweeping Antelope Valley after a 17-12 win in the finale. The Cougars record stands at 28-8 overall and 15-6 in the Western State Conference.

Canyons enters the CCCAA SoCal Regional Playoffs as the No. 10 seed and will travel east to take on No. 7 Chaffey College. It’s a best-of-3 series, with Game 1 at 2 pm Friday.

COC Softball enters the CCCAA Socal Regional tournament as the 6-seed and will host No. 11 Moorpark College in a best-of-3 series. Game 1 is at College of the Canyons Saturday, first pitch at 2 pm.

The Master’s College

TMC (34-16) ended the season on a high note with a three-game sweep of William Jessup at Lou Herwaldt Stadium over the weekend.

The win ensured the Mustangs with a third place finish in the Golden State Athletic Conference. They now await postseason baseball announcements.

Los Angeles Rams

The Rams made CAL junior Jared Goff the first overall selection in the 2016 NFL Draft, and then had to wait til Saturday (rounds 4-7) to make their next picks. They had two fourth round picks and three sixth rounders.

And with those picks, LA chose all players from schools in the South.

Tyler Higbee, TE, Western Kentucky

Pharoh Cooper, WR, South Carolina

Temmarick Hemingway, TE South Carolina State

Josh Forrest, ILB, Kentucky

Michael Thomas, WR, Southern Miss

Los Angeles Dodgers

There’s a reason Clayton Kershaw gets paid a million bucks per start. The dynamo left-hander was on the mound Sunday to stop the historically bad bleeding and he single-handedly won the game.

The Dodgers were on the verge of their most consecutive home losses in over 20 years after dropping seven straight of an 8-game homestand.

Insert Clayton Kershaw’s dominance: a complete game 1-0 shutout against the San Diego Padres, with 14 strikeouts.

It was Kershaw’s 45th game with double-digit strikeouts, and he’s 6-0 with a scorching 0.98 ERA in his last nine starts against the Padres.

Oh, and it was he that provided the winning offense with an RBI single in the third inning for the game-winner.
