Santa Clarita Sports Report: May 21, 2015

Santa Clarita Sports Report: May 21, 2015 – The Valencia volleyball team swept Burroughs of Burbank in three games in the semifinals of the CIF Southern Section Division 2 playoffs.

The Valencia boys are in the championship game for the first time since 2008. The Viking have won four CIF boys volleyball titles and have reached the final eight times.

Kyle Ensing had 11 kills and eight blocks against Burroughs. Zach Pierce had five blocks and Michael Barritt had four.

The Valencia boys are the No. 2 seed in the playoffs. They will play Oak Park, the No. 1 seed, in the championship match at Cerritos College on Saturday.

In track and field, Golden Valley is sending 10 athletes to the CIF Southern Section Division 2 meet this weekend.

Bianca Tinoco had the top time in the 800 at the Southern Section Division 2 prelims. Nikaela Harris was tops in the shot put and qualified in the discus.

Canyon is sending eight athletes to the Division 2 track and field finals. Saugus has seven athletes heading to the finals.

West Ranch’s Nathan Bultman and Max Cawley qualified for the Southern Section Division 1 finals. Bultman will compete in the shot put and Cawley advanced in the triple jump.

In the major leagues, the Dodgers lost to the Giants in San Francisco, 4-0. The Giants shut out the Dodgers for the second game in a row. The Dodgers have lost three of their past four games.
